How does browser-based compression work?
The tool uses MediaRecorder to re-encode the video at a lower bitrate. Frames are drawn through a canvas at your chosen resolution.
Why does compression take as long as the video?
The video plays at 1× speed during re-encoding. Browser APIs don't yet support faster-than-realtime encoding. Short videos compress quickly.
What format is the output?
WebM (VP9 or VP8 depending on browser support). Most platforms and players accept WebM.
Which quality preset should I use?
Medium is a good default (~60% reduction). Use Low for email/messaging, High for archiving.
